Two broadcasts were planned as part of President Hoover's unemployment relief campaign. One was organized by the Motion-Picture Producers and Distributors of America. The film industry was presented by two groups;one broadcasted from the East and included Douglas Fairbanks, Nancy Carroll, William Boyd, Harry Richman, Morton Downey, Eddie Cantor and a symphony orchestra. Irene was part of the West coast/Hollywood troupe and in the company of Maurice Chevalier, Jeanette MacDonald, John Boles, George Arliss, Marie Dressler, Tom Mix, Ann Harding, Bebe Daniels and Richard Dix.

Don E. Gilman, vice-president of NBC and in charge of the Western Division, introduced to the listeners Joseph I. Breen, Lionel Barrymore and Irene. Joseph I. Breen was the assistant to Will Hayes ("Hayes Office") and director of the Production Code Administration of the Motion Pictures Producers and Distributors of America. The topic of the evening was the "motion picture industry's ideas on the subject of a self-governing plan in connection with the campaign for cleaner films."
