August 25. 1976 - with close friend Loretta Young
"Irene Dunne and Loretta Young, two great film favourites of yesteryear, were among celebrities who flocked to the Hollywood Bowl for a benefit evening for the Pension Fund of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. Irene wore a pinafore dress over a floppy bow-tied blouse and the still young at heart Loretta, a leaf-patterned dress and turban. They shared the contents of a gaily-decorated picnic supper basket..."
(The Australian Women's Weekly, 11.03.1976)
Though this press report is dated with November, the concert was indeed in August. That benefit evening was a huge event with two orchestras - the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. Zubin Mehta was the conductor of the evening, and Beverly Sills contributed her coloratura art. A fantastic programme constituted an "once-in-a-lifetime-concert" (Pasadena, Star-News, 08.27.1976), and I'm sure those friends, pictured here, had a great time.
