08.09.1955 - Irene and Frank at the Victory Ball

The Victory Ball was a huge social event for the benefit of the St. John´s Hospital - one of Irene´s favorite charities - and the preopening gala for the luxury Beverly Hilton. Irene was a sponsor and one of the ball chairmen, and she and Louella Parsons greeted the guests from the terrace of the Beverly Hilton´s Ball Room. Then followed a splendid evening with a lot of entertainment, including three orchestras, Dorothy Kirsten from the MET as singer and Jack Benny as master of ceremonies. For all interested in fashion design -  Irene´s evening gown was a Fontana of Rome original, floating white net over aqua. The evening was financially successful enough to complete the construction at the hospital.

That week Irene had a "Beverly Hilton run": as guest at the Colgate Variety Hour (08.07.), at the Victory Ball (08.09.) and as guest at the opening gala (08.11.), another charity event, this time in favor of Jimmy McHugh´s polio foundation. The next day the Beverly Hilton was opened for the public.

Quite a week for the "no party-goers" Mr. and Mrs. Griffin!
