09.12.1930 - "Leathernecking"
"Lilyan Tashman, rated as having the best figure and the best clothes in Hollywood, is one of the principals in the all-star, gorgeous technicolor comedy, "Leathernecking" , which comes to The Ritz Monday and Tuesday, November 3 and 4. With the fair Lilyan are Irene Dunne, a new and luring star; Louise Fazenda, Rita LaRoy, Ken Murray, Ned Sparks, Benny Rubin and Eddie Foy, Jr.. Tiller's Sunshine Girls - sixteen dancing beauties from England, made their American debut in this picture, and do some steps with a grace and precision that is amazing. Seven songs, each destined for nation-wide popularity are the vocal hits, including "All My Life", "Shake It Off And Smile", "Careless Kisses", "Evening Star", "Nice And So Particular" and "Kiss Me Cinderella".
The Story of "Leathernecking" centers in the quarters of the U.S. Marines stationed in Hawaii, with little diversion for the enlisted men.
Chick Evans (Eddie Foy, Jr.), conceives the idea of stealing his captain's uniform and Distinguished Service Medal and philandering in high society of Honolulu.
He is successfull in capturing the fancy of Delphine Witherspoon (Irene Dunne) daughter of Sir Oliver Witherspoon, who makes his home in Honolulu.
Chick's buddies are envious of his social prowess and decide to take their sweeties and "crash" a party at Delphine's home.
The Witherspoons find "Captain Evans" fraternizing with buck privates. An explanation is demanded - and given by one of the soldiers. "Chick ain't no more officer than I am, " he says.
Realizing that Delphine actually loves Chick, Edna plans to bring them together aboard her yacht. The plan fails, but starts a series of amusing and thrilling complications that keeps the audience on their toes and brings the picture to a satisfying conclusion."
